![]() Norpro Butter Keeper $15.99 This butter bell is a handsome helpful addition to my counter top utensils. The ease of having softened butter at my fingertips at all times is so convenient. No more hard butter for me. Product is well made and attractive. ![]() The Keeper $9.98 I watched this during my lunch break the other day. I would have been farther ahead to go back to work early. Dennis Hopper plays Lieutenant Krebs, a crazy cop who kidnaps a stripper and torments her with psychological warfare for months. No one suspects that the cop is a kidnapper because of his popular public image with children (he does puppet shows which encourage kids to say no to drugs and no to crime). The film is slow and sluggish, and I kept waiting for something interesting to happen. I kept thinking, "When will the woman try to escape? When will her family and friends start looking for her? Why did this nutty cop kidnap her to begin with?" Misey was a a much better movie if you are interested in the psycho-kidnapper thing. ![]() My Sister's Keeper - Movie Tie-In: A Novel $16.00 When Kate Fitzgerald is diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, the best hope for her survival is a sibling donor. When her brother Jesse is not a match, her parents decide to see a geneticist to "engineer" a sibling that WILL be a match. Within moments of her birth, Anna Fitzgerald is responsible for saving her sister's life. Through the years, whenever Kate is sick, Anna must undergo procedure after procedure. When Anna is thirteen, he sister's kidneys are failing. After years of being forced to undergo medical procedures with no benefit to herself, Anna seeks medical emancipation from her parents. This is a very controversial and emotional subject. But, Picoult handles it masterfully. Each chapter changes points of view so that we see how this illness affects everyone involved. The characters are all very authentic characters faced with complicated questions that don't really have a right or wrong answer. While I cried more than once while reading, she also brings humor to the way the characters deal with the tragedy. I put off reading this book because I expected it to be depressing. It was very sad, and the ending was not what I expected. But, it was well worth reading. ![]() Keeper $6.99 An excellent read for my 11_year old. He was so excited to tell me every detail, chapter by chapter... Even the gory details he read about the logging industry in S. Amer. Believe it or not, this look at a world so different from his American life is what really kept him going and going, even through some of the vague symbolism of the "keeper's" spirit, etc, which of course, made good conversation for us to talk about our family's spirituality. Excellent motivating book with lots of good tips about intuitive soccer playing from a pro! |
