![]() Canon PIXMA iP4700 Premium Inkjet Photo Printer (3742B002) $99.99 I needed a printer to fit in a tight space. I would like to have a printer with more features and possibly higher quality photo printing like some of the higher end Canon printers. Nevertheless, Canon makes a high quality printer even at lower ends of their spectrum. ![]() Sony ICF-C7IP Clock Radio for iPod and iPhone with Hidden Sliding Dock Tray $69.95 First- I'm using this in the kitchen as an AM/FM radio as much as a charger/player of music for iphone (so I can't speak to its value as an alarm clock), and I've had it for about a month now, using it daily. It replaced an older high quality radio with the bonus of being an accessory for the phone. I think it is just about perfect. Important to me is radio reception and Sony quality and AM & FM antenna ensure it is great (check my other reviews- they're largely for radios). I listen to a mix of NPR (radio but also streaming and podcasts off iphone) and music and sound is perfectly good/loud enough for kitchen & adjacent dining room. Love how the remote integrates with iphone controls. Tiny footprint takes up little space on counter. Big display of time with dimming options make it visible from a distance and can serve as a nightlight if you'd like. Cons: echoing others, the slide-out charging tray is slick but seems a bit flimsy. The remote isn't fully functional unless iphone is in ipod mode (unless I'm missing something). A few of the controls (like presets) are on the back, out of site. This probably works well for bedside alarm clock but not for kitchen counter. It is a bit pricy but you get what you pay for. The external AM & FM antenna are great but make for a cord mess. ![]() Sony Digital Media Port Cradle for iPod and MP3 Players (Black, TDM-iP50) $99.99 Product does what it is supposed to. On-screen menu navigation is very basic and simple. The cradle is solidly built and heavier than expected. One strange quirk is that although you can play your videos from your iPod or iPhone from this device, it will not play a music video if it is located in a music playlist. Other than that, sound and video quality were excellent. An excellent addition to my HTCT100. Although it is a bit expensive for an iPod cradle. ![]() IP Fundamentals: What Everyone Needs to Know About Addressing and Routing $49.99 I've worked in the networking field for over 20 years and found this to be the clearest text on IP fundamentals in my experience. I found it extremely well written in a style that doesn't put you to sleep as many technical texts do. My only complaint is the lack of IPv6 coverage. This is understandable considering the 1999 publishing date, but I did find another book that was published the same year that covered IPv6. It's been 10 years since it was last updated, so a new revision is in order. A word of caution to anyone without any networking background. While I went through it about as fast as I would a novel, this book assumes some basic networking knowledge and could be somewhat challenging to someone totally new to the subject. |
