When I ordered this I thought I was in for a good time cooking in the kitchen. What I found out in a hurry was that even with the interface disc, I still could not cook with just any pan. I tried to saute some sliced onions and they never even got a chance to wilt or give off any of their water. Even after I got a set of induction cookware, it still was not all is chalked up to be. The only thing I found to cook well with it was my cast iron pans.

When you boil water, you can see a ring where the heat is applied to the pot. I prefer a more even heat distribution.

Although there are 7 digital heat settings, it is still not as flexible as regular hot plate or gas stove.

Cookware must be 4.7 inches in diameter or larger. Although this is not a problem for me, it is something to keep in mind.

I purchased this item at the end of Jan 09. From the day it arrived it would randomly come up with an error that the book says needs to be unplugged to reset. I thought that it was OK to deal with this, reflecting back I don't know why. The cooktop has many neat features such as temperature control and timer so it shuts off after cooking for the time you set, which is great for someone that forgets the water is boiling until it is half gone. It boils water faster than any method I found.

The story ends this way, It is the end of October 09 and the unit blows a fuse if it is plugged in. Less than a year with a couple of months that it was not used is hardly a good product in my view. I would not purchase this model again, yet the concept of using induction cooking is awesome and I would choose a brand that has a better guarantee. This is ideal if you want a low cost test on what the technique is like, which is awesome.

When you really want gas for instant heating, but cannot get a gas line into a kitchen, this stove top is not a second best, it is the best. I completely agree with the first review, have had the hob for over a year and the only problem we have had is the error messages after cleaning when the hob is damp.
There is a design fault with the layout of the rings. The smaller rings are at the back and when you want to make a sauce in a smaller pan, it means stirring over the top of other pans, also the stainless trim between the knob panel and the rings tends to get scratch marks from the bigger pans when you move them about. Frying an egg is different if the pan is cold to start, as it cooks the food and not the pan, a frying pan doesn't get instantly hot.
Pots have not been a problem, I carried a small magnet to test pots and Ikea have had the best prices.
Even with the above, I would not think twice about replacing a hob with an Icon if having complete control of your cooking temperatures is important to you.
