Besides the other more than absurd wars are mentioned, the four that relate to South America take the prize.

1) War of Triple Alliance. Paraguay takes on the two biggest countries in SA plus Uruguay and up end up getting over eighty percent of the men in their country killed and loose valuable land.

2) War of the Pacific. Bolivia along with Peru attack Chile over the nitrate fields in the area where their three borders meet. Peru manages to lose those fields worth having and have their capital captured while Bolivia manages to lose every battle, their nitrate fields plus their only outlet to the Pacific Ocean.

3) War of the Chaco. Fought during the interwars years when everyone else was getting ready for WW2. Both countries ended up using up most of their treasury (not to mention a good portion of their men of draft age) while fighting over control of land that had NO water resources.

4) The Falkland War. Fought between Argentina and the UK to prove who was dumber than a stump. On two islands with little, 2000 inhabitants, scrub grass and about a million sheep. Britain lost more capital ships than they did to the Japanese in WW2. Not their finest hour or minute.

We won't talk about the American invasion of Grenada which looked like it was planned and carried out by the guys who brought you "the Bay of Pigs".
