![]() Peru y Sus Imagenes $16.99 There three sections: Lima (24 minutes), Cuzco (22 minutes), El Valle Sagrado (28 minutes) This is NOT what the "menu" would lead you to expect. Lima spends time on the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, Bolivar and San Martin, and then gets into a LOT of churches. It definately seems to think the only important thing in the country are the Spanish and their descendants (well, maybe some other Europeans). The only non-European is shown begging by one of the churches. Cuzco has a lot of shots of the original inhabitants, simply because there are a lot of them there. There are a lot of shots of the city itself, and the markets. There is a shot of a pair of street musicians and the music continues under the next bit of narration - remember, things like Social Security are only for the invaders and their descendants. Everyone else has to earn a living somehow. There is an excessive quantity of time spent on the huge edifaces the Spanish built on the foundations of the earier Houses of Worship, but that's where the people who made the DVD were coming from. There is also a section of a ceremony at Sacsaywaman, and a short bit with the camera at an angle that is not the point of view of any of the participants but appeals to European males like the cameraman. El Valle Sagrado (tracks 3-12) starts with the descendants of the original inhabitants harvesting grain and taking care of llamas, and takes a look at classical goldwork and pottery. Then there is a good series of glimpses of towns between Cuzco and Machu Picchu - it is done as if it is a straight trip, but a check of the map says the camera and crew made two day-trips on different roads. Then there is the train to Machu Picchu, and a look around. Narration includes info on the discovery of Machu Picchu. This section focuses more on what there is to see, rather than making a tour of churches. Narration in Spanish; subtitles in Spanish, English, French, Italian. On the computer, Japanese subtitles are listed, altho don't seem to work. Good for learning Spanish. This is the same DVD as the "Enhanced CD", which is actually two separate discs, the DVD, and a CD of Peruvian Valses - if you like them (I don't especially). ![]() Im«Ągenes: An Introduction to Spanish Language and Cultures $106.95 I ordered this textbook set on August 12, and after seeing it went past my house after making a stop in New Jersey, UPS had this text travel north of my house before making its final destination at my home three days later. This appears to be what I need but the time it took to get it did not seem worth it. ![]() Crystal Guitar $15.98 A human being could be meaningful and important to the whole world, but the whole world could be meaningful and the most important in life to a human being due to this composer.I have played his 15 of his many compositions from the past three years. I have recieved his 25 Cuadros Magicos sheet music album and have studied it everyday since then.thank you Rodolfo Tello Pedrin {52yrs. ![]() Argentina y Sus Imagenes $16.99 What a relief not to have some annoyingly pert "host" on camera--such as in the Globe Trekker series--get in the way of telling us about this wonderful country. The film is very well conceived, dwelling first on Buenos Aires, easily the most cosmopolitan city in Latin America and home to about one third of the country's entire population, then on the Pampas and finally on Patagonia and the remote south of Argentina. The narration is full of useful information. The English subtitles are fine, though inevitably they cannot match the superb literary quality of the original Spanish. I've been to Argentina many times and think that this is an excellent, succinct introduction to the country. |
