![]() Rachel And The Hired Gun (Zebra Historical Romance) $3.99 Plot Summary: Rachel Douglas is traveling with a wagon train to the Dakota Territory to meet the father she's never known. When a gunman with pale eyes and black hair shows up to escort her back home, Rachel finds herself trusting Sager and fearing him too. Sager plans to use Rachel as part of an elaborate revenge plot, but his resolve to do the wrong thing dissolves as he gets to know her. When Rachel meets her gruff Papa, she learns that he's planning to marry her off to his enemy's son in order to halt a decades long feud. Rachel wants Sager, but he's made it clear that he's moving on once his business is settled. This story started and ended with a bang, but the middle lost some of the relationship momentum. It's regrettable, because the beginning was fantastic. Maybe it was a tad melodramatic, but I don't read romances because I'm interested in real life. Rachel was on the brink of a grisly death when Sager comes to the rescue, and bam, the tension starts right away. I love it when an author cuts to the chase (literally in this case) and throws the couple together without endless preliminary chapters. Of the two main characters, I was most taken with Sager. He was primed to be the tormented hero, as a white boy raised by a Shoshone family, he had a divided soul between the family he never knew, and the family he loved. Sager was rough and tough on the outside, and wounded on the inside. Rachel also had a horrible childhood, but strangely that wasn't explored in the story. Sure, it was mentioned a few times, but that emotional angst wasn't milked as it could have been. All in all, this was a good western with an above average romance. At $3.99 it's quite a bargain. ![]() Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge PC game - Tri Synergy $29.99 Tri Synergy Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge is a turn-based strategy that puts you control of mercenary specialists for hire near the African country Diamond Coast.
