LEGO City Police Headquarters
LEGO City Police Headquarters

$89.99
My seven year old son got this police station as a birthday present and he just loves it. We spend a day putting it together. Ever since he is rebuilding it and changing it over and over. He does not get bored with it.

I can remember when Headquarters first came out. My sister and all her friends were geeked, got to the store first (in those days, it was a Woolworth's dime store!), and brought the album home.

To us kids, it was not that important that the music be played by the Monkees themselves. I was 7, and didn't care. I detected a change in the sound, and to my un-developed musical tastes at the time, I did not like it.

I came to appreciate the album more, as I got older. And after an almost thirty-year hiatus from the Monkees, reacquired it when it came out on CD in 1994, with these awesome bonus tracks!

"All of Your Toys" is, simply put, a gem. Peter's wacky count sets the stage for the feel of the entire album. Leave these guys alone, and they make great music.

So, what is the "Monkees" sound? They did indeed have one. They became a real group, the same way other Rock Hall of Famers like Ricky Nelson became rock performers. They had input into their music - as much as the Mamas and Papas, and individual members of groups like the Temptations had input into their music. They were recruited and discovered, like, well, every group in the Rock Hall.

There is not a single inductee in the Rock Hall of Fame, that would not have given an appendage to have had the opportunity the Monkees had, at the same point in their careers.

In Headquarters, the Monkees step up and prove that they can put out quality music.

But there is more to this story. I will write more on HQ, when I review the Deluxe edition.

Suffice to say that this CD belongs in any pop or rock music fan's collection. Think you're too cool for the Monkees? Get over it!
Texsport Camouflage Headquarters Square Dome Tent
Texsport Camouflage Headquarters Square Dome Tent

I lived in this tent for the better part of three unseasonably cold and wet summer weeks in Maine. I stayed dry (for the most part) in spite of heavy rains lasting up to eight hours and one severe thunderstorm that lit up the tent's walls like a strobe light. I'll take the blame for any problems: the door was on the (slightly) uphill side, so some water dripped in through the bottom of the door zipper, but only after hours of continuous rain. During the thunderstorm, maybe a dozen drops blew in, not enough to wet the bottom of a shot glass. It was fine in the wind, but I would say that this is a three season tent.

The bug netting is fine, and for the price of one night in a motel, the tent owes me nothing. I outfitted it with boxsprings and a matress from a twin bed and a sturdy table/bench, leaving me plenty of room to stand and change clothes.

I love this tent!

A fine well written book. Very Informative. A fine addition to my collection of books about Hitler.
