![]() The Tenth Good Thing About Barney $5.99 Our cat Lady died about 3 weeks ago. The vet who helped us put her to sleep recommended the 10th good thing about Barney to us and we bought it for our daughter. She didn't understand where the kitty had gone, and we read it to her. I like that the book takes a very delicate approach to the idea of what happens after death. Christians who believe the Bible do not believe that animals have souls or go to heaven, even if they might compromise their values and say that to their child. People of non-Christian faiths are sick to death of hearing about the Christian heaven and having it poison the most innocuous places. This book will please the purists from both camps. ![]() Why Good People Do Bad Things: Understanding Our Darker Selves $15.00 I just finished this book and have a lot to think about. I have heard and read these ideas before but the subject bears going over again and again. I definitely feel Hollis has an excellent understanding of the subject matter. He isn't a very good writer, though, actually. Each chapter seems like all his thoughts on that section just written down in any order and sometimes repeated for no good reason I can see. Thoughts often don't follow from each other. Fortunately, the thoughts are worthwhile and can stand alone. I found myself stopping many times to mull over what he has said. ![]() When Bad Things Happen to Good People $11.95 I just finished reading this book as I write this. The first half of the book is pretty good, but this rabbi really makes a better case for god not existing than theism. As the book goes on, he starts to contradict himself and his arguments start to turn very very weak. He should have only made this book half as long. Bottom line, if you are atheist and want to maybe convince your friends or family that believing in god is stupid, this might be a good introduction book for them. |
