Michael Weston King: The Crowning Story (From A Good Son to a Decent Man 1993-2005)
Michael Weston King: The Crowning Story (From A Good Son to a Decent Man 1993-2005)

$21.98
Weston King has been a staple of the British alt.country scene for years, receiving crucial acclaim for his work with The Good Sons. As a measure of The Good Sons stature, they were the first British group to sign for Glitterhouse Records and the first British outfit to release for the US label Watermelon. The band went their separate ways in 2002 but Michael Weston King continued to tour Europe and America, sharing the bill with many of the worlds finest musicians and songwriters, including Nick Cave, John Cale, Steve Earle, Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman, Rodney Crowell, Guy Clark, Joe Ely, Joe Henry, Ron Sexsmith, and Townes Van Zandt. The Crowning Story is a visual snapshot of those 12 years. A fascinating mix of promo videos, TV appearances, interviews, and live footage filmed all over Europe and America, from the smallest of clubs to concert halls. From the early days of his groundbreaking band The Good Sons (seen here in concert, on TV, and in the promo video for the song Riding The Range with Townes Van Zandt ) through to his countless solo treks around the world, and on to his collaboration with Jackie Leven, who produced the 2003 album, A Decent Man, and with whom Michael formed The Decent Men in 2004. The DVD closes with live footage from the 2005 tour of America and an on stage performance with former Byrd and Flying Burrito Brother, Chris Hillman.

I found this originally on sale at a library in Connecticut and had intended to leave it behind when I moved but couldn't bear to part with it. I'm very excited to own it on DVD at last!

If you love ridiculous swashbucklers with unlikely plots, bizarre costumes, collapsing furniture and lots of overacting, this is a must-own. The fight scenes are particularly over the top. Best watched late at night with a group of like-minded friends.

I would also recommend Zorro, the Gay Blade, if this type of movie is your cup of tea. These two films completed many a fencing club gathering in my college years.

This is one of several decent westerns John Carpenter made in the 1940s and the best one of the bunch t hat I have seen. It has all the traditional western elements in it, from the saloon to the showdown to bank robberies but does them with more panache that you would normally expect from this well worn genre. I had a good time watching it and was impressed by the quality of the clip.

Had to order this book from the UK, but it was well worth it. Russel McLean has put together a nasty tale of a family that fell apart years earlier, the aftermath of that, and the troubled PI who tries to figure where all the pieces go.
If I'm not mistaken, this book is also the first Scottish PI novel ever. Willing to be corrected.
