Glitch: Designing Imperfection
Glitch: Designing Imperfection

$32.95
A "glitch" usually fixes itself in the amount of time it takes for it to be noticed in the first place, whether as a scrambled cable television delay, a page-loading error on an internet browser or a jumble of pixels on an ATM interface. Glitch: Perfect Imperfections consists of over 200 glitch images grabbed, composed and provoked by artists who present these complex fragments of color and lines as thought-provoking mistakes that merit being considered in an aesthetic sense, no matter if as art or as advertising. Artists like Angela Lorenz, O.K. Parking and Karl Klomp muse about what glitches mean to them. The images and text in Glitch capture the fact that no one can deliberately make a mistake, although mistakes are often the greatest sources of inspiration.

I cannot believe that people are giving this book five stars. Did they even read it, or do they just not recognize terrible writing when they see it? I picked this book up for the interesting cover, as I do so many times. Sometimes, however, judging a book by its cover can yield disastrous results, and unfortunately, this was one of those times. I started reading excitedly, eager for a wonderful book that would leave me begging for more. Actually, I was left wondering why I had spent my money on that horrible book. Anybody who reads this is probably wondering why I hate it so much. Here are my reasons:
1. The writing style is terrible. In fact, it almost hurts to read it. All through the book I was thinking why am I reading this insult to my intelligence? At first I thought it was good, but after the first chapter I could barely tolerate it, by the middle I was almost ready to throw the book away, and I actually felt relief when it ended. I love books. I would never think of throwing a book in the trash, however, this is not a book, it is something that was written and published - and speaking of publishing, how could people let that be released into the world? A real book is something that absorbs you fully and completely, until you think of nothing else. This object with words in it does not even come close to being a book. It is just terrible.
2. The recommended age group is 9-12. I would think a 6-year-old could understand it, and any child above 8 would be bored by it.
I can't say I hated the book. In fact, it was pretty good. I also take into account that it was written by two people, and I understand it can be tricky to write with another person whose style is different from your own. I did not really like it, but maybe I exaggerated when I said it was not a book. The idea was very creative, and with a little more editing, would be wonderful.
