The Scenery of Farewell is an exellient record for any Two Gallants fan. Even though this is an EP, it's just as good as any of their LP's. The only big difference is that this is a mellow acoustic record, quite similiar to their usual style just with a lot less punk/rock. It reminds me of Bob Dylan before he went comepletely electric in '65. Anyway, it's well worth buying if you feel like something gentle and mellow.

"Paris Stories" is an amazing collection of short stories by Mavis Gallant, who is best known for her work in "The New Yorker." The 15 stories in this collection are all set in Europe, and they offer memorable characters, humorous observations, witty commentary, and brilliant prose. Gallant's writing style is very rich, unique, and beautiful. In the afterword of the book, Gallant herself recommends not reading this book entirely in one sitting, and I agree. This is such a fantastic collection that readers are much better off savoring every page. I usually prefer novels to short stories, but "Paris Stories" is amazing and flawless. I highly recommend it!

Gallant Hours [VHS]

Great movie. I had seen on TV and had to get the VHS. I'm close but not of the era to have seen Adm Halsey physically however James Cagney's portrayal reflects a man of integrity, dedication, and love of family and country. I appreciated how the film did not center on the battles but on the person who would lead others to the battle. As a retired military person you come to recognize that there are those who are meant to lead and this is a wonderful portrayal of one of these men.
