The book's final section presents alternative models of worker education that illustrate a variety of approaches currently being employed. All selections found in this volume represent original contributions not published elsewhere. ![]() College Ministry 101: A Guide to Working with 18-25 Year Olds $15.99 For anyone involved in high-school, college, or single adult ministry, this should be required reading. Not only does Chuck bring an incredibly personal, easy-to-read flavor this these pages, but he also provides a thoughtful philosophy that I've yet to hear in the modern Church. If the principals of "College Ministry 101" were put into practice, the landscape of the American Church would change dramatically, to a more healthy and Biblical Body of Christ, I believe. ![]() Skoops $31.99 Skopos is not a regular collection of music. It's a complete experience. The music, composed by Wim and brought to live by himself and his ensemble, was presented to the audience for the first time in the summer of 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of 700 years of Flemish history. I had the chance to be there, at a time when I only knew Mertens' music from his more populare tracks such as "Often a Bird" and "Close Cover". But this concert really convinced me, or no, blew me away. Part of a sound and light show held in the gardens outside the Castle of Gaasbeek (near Brussels, Belgium), the music managed to grasp me entirely. To me, the entire piece had a fuller sound to it than other works, even though Wim stays true to his admirable minimalist music. Just this weekend, I heard Skopos for a second time live on his concert tour. And I was gripped again. I hope the music will do the same for you when you listen to the cd, perhaps outside in your garden or a local park, with some people you (don't) know around, and maybe - not a prerequisite but possibly an excellent addition - some Belgian chocolates ;) ![]() Working with Asian American College Students: New Directions for Student Services (J-B SS Single Issue Student Services) $29.00 Leading off this volume, three undergraduate Asian American students share their experiences in college. In subsequent chapters, authors highlight the diversity of Asian American college students, analyze the "model minority" myth and the stereotype of the "perfidious foreigner," and point out the need to consider the racial identity and racial consciousness of Asian American students. Various authors propose a model of Asian American student development, address issues of Asian Americans who are at educational risk, discuss the importance of integration and collaboration between student affairs and Asian American studies programs, and offer strategies for developing socially conscious Asian American student leaders. Two authors who wrote about Asian American college students in 1987 reflect on the preceding chapters and provide suggestions for more effective work with Asian American students. With an extensive list of resources, ranging from associations and media to policy reports and landmark scholarly works, this volume is a valuable guide to student services practitioners and researchers alike. This is the 97th volume in the Jossey-Bass quarterly report series New Directions For Student Services. |
