I really wanted to like this book. And, when I first got it, I read through it really quick and got SO excited! I was going to do my own 12 week strength program and I was so ready!!! It all seemed so awesome, and I loved the idea that I could combine mind and body in one workout!

Then, reality sunk in, and I realized that Shawn Phillips is mostly a great marketer (just like his brother). That is where they both really shine. He is really good at getting you to believe that his book is really awesome. But, then, there's the aching question... where's the content?

Content-wise, I think it is a repeat of common bodybuilding stuff with his own personal twist. I think his twist is interesting, but not really useful for the average reader.

Things really changed for me when I found Starting Strength, by Mark Rippetoe!!! Now, that book rocks!Starting Strength (2nd edition) And, that is a book that will really teach you how to build Strength (for a beginner).

Part of what I've gotten in my research is that most bodybuilding advice (like this Strength For Life book) is really only useful if you are a professional bodybuilder. And, if you are a professional bodybuilder, then you probably know it all already anyway.

If you are NOT a pro bodybuilder, and you actually want the Strength that Shawn Phillips is advertising, then his path is not the best path to get there.

In the end, I got a few good concepts from the book, but mostly am ultimately disappointed and I feel a little cheated.
