National Geographic Society Exploration Experience: The Heroic Exploits of the World's Greatest Explorers
National Geographic Society Exploration Experience: The Heroic Exploits of the World's Greatest Explorers

Well I think it's a good concept. No depth to the historical data, but don't think that as the intent.

Why then only 1 star you ask?

It took two pages in to find a glaring error. A geographic error From the National Geographic Society. Who's specialty is geography. Right there on the page about early Spanish explorers it says "...and the Painted Desert on New Mexico." Well I live in NM and I'm guessing that Arizona is going to be a little ticked off when they wake up tomorrow to find out we stole one of their tourist attractions.

Come on! Did anyone do any fact checking? How many other errors are there in this book that I didn't catch because I'm not well versed on the history of exploration?

There is just no explanation for such a basic error of geography. Did I mention that this was published by the National Geographic Society?

We really liked the way that all of the information in this book was organized and presented. Excellent spring-board type book for a study on early exploration. Great read aloud for the whole family with plenty of pictures. I, as well as the kids really learned a lot!

I got this as a gift pretty early on when my baby was really young. I laid him in it on his back and it was okay, but he wasn't thrilled with it. He didn't like tummy time very much, so laying down on his tummy and playing with the crunchy leaves wasn't too good either. But once he started crawling, this thing provided endless hours of fun for us. He crawls through it, back and forth, as I chase him from either end. He loves it. It's still a lot of fun now that he can walk, although he does stand on the outside of it and make it collapse. But he thinks that's pretty cool anyways--just set it up away from the furniture.

Another plus if you have pets that insist on sleeping in it when it is not in use--its totally washable. I've machine washed it several times and it has held up nicely.
