![]() Experience Life $24.00 I subscribe to a few fitness, running, and health magazines but this is my favorite. It covers a broad spectrum of topics. Articles covering all aspects of wellness including physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness. My only gripe is that there are only ten issues a year instead of twelve!! ![]() Watchmen: The End is Nigh The Complete Experience $19.99 This is a great package overall, for starters you get the blue-ray movie with all the special features etc (which in and of itself is the price of the game) and on top of the movie is the game. The game itself acts as a prequel to the movie, with movie scenes based in comic form. The special feature of the blue-ray and the game fill in many gaps in the making of the movie and the concepts of the book. The game play starts out slow, Nite Owl and Rorschach start with very basic moves but quickly works into a great variety of attacks and defensive moves that has the characters taking on hoards of people with relative ease. Each character collects tokens and find hidden areas for their upgrades. It is a challenging game with some decent replay value, the controls are easy but the camera angles, not so much, but if you can get over that hiccup then the game is a nice look at the Watchmen's world and some of the altered parts of it that made the history of their world so radically different from ours. Overall, I'd say it's a good deal and great buy. ![]() Aquafresh Extreme Clean Original Experience Plus Whitening, 5.6-Ounce Tubes (Pack of 6) $24.60 First off, let's get something straight here: Toothpaste is getting out of control. EXTREME CLEAN! EXTRA PLUS ULTRA WHITENING! TAKE THE FEELING OF CLEAN TO THE EXTREME! SHUT UP! It's toothpaste. But, more importantly, while this toothpaste might clean pretty well it has a couple major things going against it. The first is that it makes your breath smell like dog gas. I know, you're thinking, "Couldn't that just be the dogs you own? Surely a toothpaste would not recreate that particular odor." No. It's the toothpaste. Tested it out on a few people and sure enough, I got the urge to get the leash and scramble to get the pup outside before a massive accident occurs. (Could it be the sodium laurel sulfate breaks down with some other chemical to produce that malodorous stench?) Alright, problem number two: It tastes like Luden's cough drops. Now, we all know that Luden's cough drops only have the ability to cure a sweet tooth. But still, it's an unpleasant medicine flavor. Combined with the foaminess of this toothpaste, Aquafresh's new EXTREME CLEAN is EXTREMELY UNPLEASANT. While I'm at it, why is it sentient? Seriously. It says so right on the box: "Seeks out hard to reach places." Seeks? Is this toothpaste operated by burrowing Jack Russell Terriers trying to catch their quarry? Might explain the after effects.... My recommendation? Nearly any other toothpaste. ![]() Experience And Education $10.95 This book represents a concise statement of John Dewey's philosophy of education, in light of his own experience and reflection on his critics. These were originally his Kappa Delta Pi lectures, but are written in a more formal style than one would lecture today. The book makes a case for "progressive schools" with which Dewey was associated, while also recognizing the criticisms and misunderstandings of these schools. Given this purpose, Dewey often reacts against those on both sides who put progressive schools and traditional schools in opposition to one another. He is, of course, on the side of progressive schools. However, he also wants a more moderate ground that makes sense out of what each side is doing, and how they may share common principles even if those are manifest in very different ways. I was impressed that much of what he says here is still relevant after 75 years. It's amazing how much of the reformist agenda he shaped and anticipated, and how much we still fight these battles. If you are interested in improving education, this book still repays reading. |
