1949 Social Control Theory Video: Morals, Laws & Conformity in Parenting
1949 Social Control Theory Video: Morals, Laws & Conformity in Parenting

$7.99
This educational video discusses the three methods of social control in 1950s United States: American customs (what we usually do), American morals (what we should do), and American law (what we must do). A group of teenagers serve as a microcosm of society, with the parents as the governmental authority. The story is about the group and how their teen curfews are causing difficulty at work (they work at the "Teen Canteen") and at home. The adults are ready to give parenting tips about curfew that mirror American laws. The teenage behavior is pretty tame by today's standards, and it's interesting to see how different parenting and parenting resources were in the fifties. To get to the heart of the matter, the teens and the adults responsible for them have a discussion and decide together what to do about this teenage behavior problem. The youngsters make the right choice, falling in line with their parents' wishes and social conformity in general. This film is an excellent examination of social control theory and how it was perceived and presented in the 1950s.

Vintage Pranks for Kids: Other People's Property DVD (1951)

$7.99
Other People's Property is a prototypical 1950's social guidance film. All the telltale characteristics are present: a stern and masculine narrator, black and white morality, and uptight cultural values. The story concerns three adorable youngsters guilty of a (seemingly!) harmless prank: pulling the fire alarm at school. What happens next is the best part of the movie: a montage of various activities that the boys interrupted are shown and explained, bursting with 1950's cultural. School committees, classroom events, and vintage fire trucks are shown plus much more. Other People's Property is an enriching historical experience.

Boundaries in Psychotherapy: Ethical and Clinical Explorations
Boundaries in Psychotherapy: Ethical and Clinical Explorations

$59.95
A client wishes to pay for therapy services by bartering his original artwork. A therapist accepts a client's hug but later worries whether doing so may have sent the wrong message. A client asks the therapist to become friends after therapy ends. A prospective client requests therapy from a clinician who is also her neighbor. A client inquires about the therapist's spiritual orientation. What is the best course of action in these situations? Zur's latest book is for the professional who feels unsure when entering those gray areas that inevitably arise in psychotherapy practice. It gives careful consideration to what constitutes a boundary violation, and explores the ethical and clinical complexities involved in boundary issues such as exchange of gifts, non-sexual touch, therapist's self-disclosure, dual relationships, bartering, home visits, home office practice, and telehealth. This book does not offer simple answers, but rather examines the nature of boundaries in psychotherapy and helps readers view boundaries through ethical and clinical lenses. Readers will learn a decision-making process that will help them think through when to cross and when not to cross a boundary.
