![]() Think Big - Protecting Natural Systems in the Rocky Mountains [VHS] $24.95 THINK BIG - NEW 2001 RELEASE! An eye opening look at Conservation Biology Make way for a new teaching tool; a fast paced, humorous and hard hitting video on conservation biology. This new video simplifies the complex issues of conservation biology in the Rockies. Knowing the Junior High School audience (& Group mentality) the last thing we wanted to make was a boring 'science video'. The key was to use a flamboyant host to introduce the scenes then let the scientists have their say. Don Enright, who has had a long history in film, theatre and interpretation was chosen to host the show. We had Don dress up as everything from an astronaut to a sleazy card shark. The 27 minute production is composed of eleven fast-flowing and concise scenes which will keep large groups and teens awake and remind us all of the vast discoveries still to be made. Join host Don Enright as he leads us through the challenges facing conservations biologists in the Rocky Mountains. With a mix of science and interpretation, this video is a perfect teaching tool for Community Groups, Outdoor Educators and Junior High Schools. The bright sparkling personalities of Mona, Rush, Randy, and Oliver enlivened many hours for me, and I'm glad to see that they are still readily available. In the Four Story Mistake, the Melendy family leaves their New York brownstone for a new home deep in the country. The house is called The Four Story Mistake, and its an ideal place for four highly intelligent, well read children. There are mysterious rooms, deep woods with streams running through them, and enormous gardens. Best of all is a huge attic room called The Office, where the children spend much of their time. the Melendys make new friends, uncover some secrets, and learn a lot about themselves and others. Elizabeth Enright wrote beautifully and never insulted her child readers by assuming that something was too hard for them. As a result her books, especially the Melendy Quartet, remain fresh and lively after nearly seventy years. ![]() The Gathering: A Novel $24.00 I'm not really sure why this book won the Man Booker Prize... I was not impressed by it at all. I didn't really like it, and for a short book (under 300 pages), it seemed dragged out and dull in sections. There were hints of great secrets and revelations to come, but none were revealed. The description of the book was more interesting than the book itself. The narrator was a rather unlikable woman and the "resolution" (hardly the right word for this ending) was terribly weak. All in all, it was well-written, but unsatisfying. |
