This book was produced in connection with a 2005 joint exhibition that reunited various objects from the Indonesian collections of the Jakarta and Leiden museums. However, it is not an exhibition catalogue. Rather it is a series of essays about the history of the collections, as illustrated by selected objects from the exhibition. There is very little information about the objects themselves.

Given the book's extremely narrow focus, it is likely to be of interest mainly to professionals in Indonesian museology and related fields, especially the history of Dutch collectors in Indonesia during the colonial period. For these few specialists, the book will be invaluable, but otherwise it cannot be recommended.
