His THE END OF EDUCATION is no exception. Postman warns against those who preach that technology is messianic, that it will solve all the problems of the US educational system if unleashed. He writes pervasively that technology works against the learning of social values, which is one of the main reasons for having schools in the first place. He also laments that the fact there is not more learning by failure in US schools. Instead of being students up for no reason, help them by having them figure out what they did wrong. Disabuse them of bad ideas and help them work towards a good solution. Taken together he asks, "Is it possible to preserve the best of American traditions and social institutions while allowing uncontrolled technological developments? Jones and Wilson cover almost every possible subject. The book appears intimidating in size and scope. However, it is an easy read because subjects can be covered in one page.
