At first this book appears amusing. Instead it dies a horrible death and continues trying to revive this humor throughout the book. Using the vampire theme for one chapter would have been enough for me. It drags on and made me put the book back into it's crypt. Sheesh!!!

I see why other reviewers compare Burroughs to Sedaris. Yeah, they're both gay authors with a wry sense of humor. But Burroughs is a much bigger prick. Sadistic. Cruel to animals (and babies). And to top it off, he continually is haunted by his childhood and alcoholism.

What could be more entertaining than THAT?

If you like sick humor, you will love this book. If you get just a bit squeamish about explicit descriptions of gay sex, you'll still love this book. Some reviewers hopped on their high horse and gave this book a low rating because they don't agree morally with the author's actions. I don't agree with poisoning and drowning mice either, but I admit that it makes for a great read.

This book was cute but I think he is trying to be like David Sedaris. One difference, David Sedaris is non-fiction. Some of the stories don't make sense compared to the timing and events of stories in his other books.

I got this book from the library and it can easilly be read in a weke. If you are a fan of Auguesteens, I would recomend getting it from the library. It isn't worth paying for though.

The "gift of desperation" is what this author calls what gave her the strength and motivation to quit drinking. A while ago, out of curiosity, I checked out this book from the library and never forgot it. I recently decided to add a copy of the book to my own library and I am so glad I did! It's all that I remember it being and more! It is truly an easy read and very well written. What I love about this book is that it gives me an insight into the world of someone who drinks. It helps to put a human face on the addiction of alcohol instead of a judgment call or simply seeing the addiction as a weakness in another person. I so much appreciate the author's truthfulness. I would highly recommend this book for those under the influence of alcohol-who want to break free, their families, friends and even just the curious. I've given this book as a gift and would do so again. Please consider this book if alcohol, in any way, affects your life- it's worth its weight in gold!
