 Saving Fish from Drowning: A Novel (Ballantine Reader's Circle) $15.00 I'm new to the writings of Amy Tan and have read only two of her books. "Saving Fish From Drowning" is my second. I expected nothing from this book, I expect nothing from an author. I don't believe every book an author crafts needs to be "the same" or "in the same style". I was initially put off the book by the cover -- gloomy. The title seemed insane...but it made me laugh. Any time I read a book that makes me laugh I know I am in for a good ride. The mishaps and the misunderstandings in this novel, the telling of the story from the perspective of a dead woman...I turned every page with anticipation and glee. I laughed out loud. Loud and deep from my belly...there were times that while it might have been horrific for someone to mistake a shrine for a urinal...it was told in such a way that I couldn't help but laugh. "Bo Cheesus" sounding like Cheez Whiz? Entirely possible. I've recommended this book to others and hope they enjoy it as much as I did. It all comes down to the expectation...what do you expect before you even open the cover...how often in life are we disappointed when our expectations are too high!?
