"When God Doesn't Make Sense" deals with the tough issues. Dr. Dobson tells us it's okay to question God's purpose in allowing bad things that happen to good people. We need never question his love. But as the author says, we can either despair or trust in God's sovereignty. I discovered this book several years ago and bought it for myself. Some time later when my brother was facing serious health issues (which eventually took his life), I bought the book for him to bring him comfort. I most recently ordered another one to be sent to a nephew in a different state who is battling melanoma. This is a book you will want to share with anyone who is hurting - physically or spiritually. God bless.  HOLLY,BUDDY - MEMORIAL COLLECTION (DIG) (SLIP) $18.54 This is a great compilation of most of at least the less-obscure Buddy Holly songs. I really like it. However, being more of a casual fan than a hard core collector, it was almost a little too much material for me. The first disk contains three cuts from the original "Buddy and Bob" blue-grass-style group, which are mostly "interesting" for their novelty and historical value. The rest of the first disk contains primarily Buddy doing Elvis-style-knockoff songs that don't sound much like Buddy's later signature style. (Buddy admired Elvis, and many of Buddy's earlier songs tried to emulate Elvis.) From my personal viewpoint, the one truly classic Holly song on the first disk, "That'll Be the Day", could have been moved to the second disk, and the first disk eliminated. For a somewhat-serious collector this is a must-have. For someone looking for a Buddy Holley collection to listen to in their car while traveling, etc. there is maybe a little too much filler material. This consideration aside, many of the songs still sound fresh and original after 50 years. It would be a travesty to give this work by the legendary Buddy Holly anything less than 4 stars, even considering the filler material. |
