I live in Playa del Carmen. Two of the hotels listed, El Faro and Panchos, are no longer around. Club Bananas is now the Real Playa del Carmen Hotel. And the Blue Parrot now has three separate hotels. Many, and probably all, of the hotels have had renovations since 1999. Also, in case it matters, Capital La Fitte and Maroma are about 10 miles north of Playa del Carmen.  Playa del Carmen, Tulum & the Riviera Maya: Great Destinations Mexico: A Complete Guide, Second Edition $18.95 I have to admit I did not fully appreciate this book until we actually got to Riviera Maya. I actually purchased other guide books, like the Eyewitness Travel Guide Top 10, because I love the photos. However this book has a wealth more information and we particularly enjoyed the walking tour of Playa as well as the awesome restaurant/food suggestions. It's apparent the author has spent lots of time there and feels like you are getting "inside" info. I would highly reccommend this book over others. |
