OK I gotta say that I agree with all of the reviews listed here. What the 5 start and 1 star reviews say are true so it depends on what you care about in a book. When you read a book you can tell if the author truly cares about the success of the reader. When they do then that is what makes it a great book. The spirit and extra care James and Ken seem make is taking the scary mask off the data structure beast. When they are done you vividly understand this material. Their ability to do this is matched by very few books. It helped me immensely and my standards are very high.

Yes I did squint when they talked about memory space 2 and the figure arrow points to memory space 3. That is minor compared to what this book does well. The stories and examples are great and it turned something I struggled with for months into an achievement over a single weekend. So how do you rate this? I am torn between 4 and 5 stars and feel the average needs me to pull this up to more of what is deserves so here are my 5 stars. The greatness of this book far outweighs the minor mistakes. In fact if it were not for them some minor editing oversights it would be the perfect book. I would like to read other books created by this dynamic duo of James and Ken.

Hyperbolic remarks about this book will mislead you into thinking that this book is absolutely unique, when it's not. The material here is standard and present on many, many algorithms and data structures book.

Furthermore, this book is dated, as it uses Pascal. It has very little relevance for today's world of collections of data structures made by experts (on Java, C#, Eiffel, Smalltlak, etc.) which are resources you need to know how to tap into to be more productive.

And as a last point, algorithm analysis is not the strong point of this book either, as it is just a late chapeter in the book and gets nowhere near advanced (i.e., real) algorithmic analysis (for which you will need higher math, such as calculus and probability).

Nevertheless, it's a good book but I don't know if you should buy it instead of that other, nice and new book using Java 5.0 using generics.

The book is in great condition, and is the correct American version, as well as the third edition.
Great introduction to c++ data structures. It may be wise to learn some basic c or c++ first though.

Book was in excellent condition and arrived even sooner than I expected. Will do business with again.
