CUT (Yaoi)
CUT (Yaoi)

This was one of the greater yaoi manga to come out in a long time.
The characters are really this mangas selling point.
Chiaki is outgoing, kind and youthful. Eiji is rough around the edges, gentle and loving. The two of them are drawn together through curiosity but grow together through affection. There relationship is a compelling and beautiful experience for the reader. I felt for them and I wanted these two to make through there hardships. I can't praise this enough. I can read this everyday and have a different emotional journey with it everytime.
Cut is well worth a second and third look. Yaoi at its finest.

When I started reading this book, I thought that it would be just another book about self-harm, telling me things I already knew and giving me advice that would change nothing, leaving me with the same pain and hopelesness.

But I was so wrong; from the first page I knew that this one was different....this book made me feel like maybe I matter, not just to anyone, but to God! It talked about a change of heart instead of just trying to fill the gap self-harm leaves with something pointless but less destructive. Reading about His love, compassion and mercy for me has helped me see that I do have some hope, even if it's small.

I enjoyed this book. Dawn was a very interesting girl and I really felt for her. I did not enjoy it as much as damaged, but I think Cathy Glass is a great writer in general. She makes it very easy to understand what is going on, like you are there.

When I was looking for Mignola projects, this Scott A. book popped up and surprised me for two reasons. First, I had never heard of it. Since Hellboy and BPRD have had such success, this doesn't happen all that often. This lead me to a second thought and, interestingly, to one false conclusion. "Perhaps it isn't that good." Still, I remembered the lesson of "Baltimore, The Last Vampire" and how well that story came across and I ordered it. This led me to my second reason : It was interestingly good. It had the art style I expected, a nice little horror gig that made me want to continue, and it had it all in a budget that I found reasonable. It simply flew underneath the radar and, in an age where more and more literature finds itself coming out, I could see how that could happen.

I do not really want to give anything away when talking about the story, so I'll keep this brief. The wording is somewhat minimal but not overly so, the tale is not a bulked up beast but instead seems a thing from a nightmare planted when short stories still roamed the land, and it made me feel like I had gotten my money and then some out of the read. I love the artwork: the way the shadows and the light tell a story all to themselves is sometimes reason enough to want to own something. I enjoyed the horror because horror is something that is a gift unto itself and few people know how to make it a little pulpy and a little terrible and know just when to bring what curtain down. And then there's the whole addiction to a favored artist - if I have to admit one thing, it is a bias toward the artwork that I have a fondness for. That, and a good story - it is the model that all books should aspire to.

As another reviewer put it, this is an overlooked gem and is worth checking out. If you need more, look up some of the shots that can be found of the book and see what you think, and know that you have that beautiful Hellboy look when you check out the pages. If that sounds like your cup of proverbial tea, then sip it.

The only problem is that, in less than an hour, you will want more because all stories that are short do that to a reader. Still, it is worth the time.
