 The Element Encyclopedia of Magical Creatures: The Ultimate A-Z of Fantastic Beings From Myth and Magic $24.95 I really love this book. I do paintings with many mythological creatures in them, and this is a great reference. It's not the best one that I've ever used. I would give that title to Giants, Monsters, and Dragons: An Encyclopedia of Folklore, Legend, and Myth. All in all it's an excellent addition to my already overflowing volumes of mythological creature references.  All Creatures Great & Small: The Complete Series 1 Collection $59.98 All Creatures Great and Small (the first 13 episodes) is a must see for James Heriot fans. The one disappointment is that the 4th DVD is flawed. Straight out of the box the DVD player registered "disk dirty." Not sure what the problem is.  Creature $60.00 I said in the title of this review that this would be a good coffee table book. My wife thinks it's big enough to be a coffee table. While there is a written introduction and conclusion, this is primarily a picture book. The animals are photographed with a white background for effect. The pictures are effective, with bits of humor throughout. Some of the pictures worked better for me than others. Considering it is a book of photographs, it would be more expensive than a print book. Thus, I would consider your interest level before buying it for yourself or your budget before getting it as a gift. But I do consider it great as a work of art, and it definitely would make a great conservation piece as a coffee table book. |
