I have tried several different beds and my dogs never liked them so before I got these, I just had plain rugs for them to lay on. That was fine, but I couldn't throw them in the washer. Both my dogs love these beds. They prefer the flat bottom to the lofty pillow-like beds I have tried before and the rolled edges are perfect for them to prop their heads on. I haven't washed mine yet, but I love that I can do so.
