![]() Herb Companion $29.94 I have been a subscriber to this magazine since I was seventeen. Several years ago they got a new editor, and I began to see the seeds of what has become a disastrous change. What used to be a classy, engaging, user-friendly magazine about herbs and herbal living, has turned into a Martha Stewart Living wannabe, Add- oriented, waste of strain on the environment. I thought after a three year break maybe they would have gotten a new editor, or they would have realized that they were ruining a good thing. But I was wrong. I wish I could have my $19.95 back. Please don't waste your money, instead look for back issues( pre-2003). they will give you a taste of this magazine when it was actually worth something. ![]() Nifty Home Products Oven Companion 3-Tier Oven Rack $19.99 I tried to fit this item into my standard size oven with every turkey roaster I own. It doesn't work; it's too wide. Moreover, my flat casserole dishes are too large for the openings. I gave the product a two rating rather than a one because the product is well made and I think would work well in a commercial size oven with smaller casseroles than mine. ![]() Highway Companion $18.98 This is a fine album, as noted by many other reviewers, and I recommend it in any format. The CD edition suffers from extreme dynamic compression, a partial casualty of the Volume Wars. The LP edition has much wider dynamics, which allows the music much more life and power. This variation is not intrinsic to the formats--someone consciously chose to take the dynamics out of the CD master. It's also not subtle--with a good turntable, the differences in the first minute of the first track are impossible to miss. On the LP, the quiet beginning invites turning up the volume, the vocal sounds like a human, and then the full band kicks in with a blast. On the CD, it's all much flatter. The LP is ridiculously expensive ($35), and is annoying to play because it's four very short sides, but it's by far the best way to hear this music. ![]() The Nursing Mother's Companion: Revised Edition $14.95 If you are all natural mom, know what attachment parenting is, if you kind of "eco" mom, do not use this book. Book is more for moms that into this Western, "MD" type of the medicine. No doubt you can find good tips there. I am sorry I did not have Dr.Sears Breasfeeding Book from very beginning. Highly recomend that and GO , PLEASE GO to your local La Leche meetings, even before you have baby. VERY VERY IMPORTANT! No book will help you as much as experienced moms that succeeded in breastfeeding. |
