![]() Been There, Should've Done That: 995 Tips for Making the Most of College $10.95 I loved this book! I wish I had been given a book like this when I was starting undergraduate or graduate school. I bought several copies to give as high school graduation presents last spring. I am sure I will do the same next spring.... ![]() Survival Secrets of College Students $12.99 It is hard to believe that other people read the same book. I picked up this book as a stocking stuffer for one of my kids. (Yeah, I still put things in their stockings - it's a family tradition.) When I opened the book, I found a disjointed collection of often contradictory advice from a zillion different students instead of a cohesive text of single point of view or narrative. Barrons might make the test guides and other books, but they sure don't deserve to get your money twice! I would like to share some of the unbelievable stupid things this book says: "You don't need a printer., but it's very nice when you are doing a paper and you don't have to walk across campus at midnight in the cold to the library or the lab to print out." However on the next line below it says: "You want a printer and copier so you can copy somebody's notes." Or how about my personal favorite written on the same page: "You are already paying fees for a computer use. You have computers to use in the dorm, in labs, and in the library seven days a week. Why would I take my small desk space in my room when a computer is available during the day." As a parent -- I WILL BE BUYING MY KIDS COMPUTERS. (Even if I have to do without something else.) Last but not least, my wife almost died laughing when I read her this snippet from page 77, "It was really comforting that my mom made my bed." I thought going to college was all about learning to be independent and an adult! Honestly, if you want to prepare your kids for school, buy them a copy of College 101: The Book Your College Does Not Want You to Read Sure, it is a little dated now, but the advice is priceless. As a parent you will die laughing (in a good way) at some of the war stories the author tells. Author Guy Stevens has been in the trenches. He tells it like it is. He has an opinion, and he expresses it in a consistent manner. Oh and his book isn't published by Barrons. (Has anyone ever heard of The Back Alley Press?) The fact that the books is independently published, is reason enough to support it. ![]() VT Logo Virginia Tech Hokies Logo Oven Mitt Potholder Set College NCAA Licensed Kitchen Tailgating Accessories make Great Best Unique CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEAS for HIM or HER, College Students Fans Men Ladies Woman Women POT HOLDERS $49.99 A detailed embroidered logo adorns these oven mitts and potholders.
