![]() Cockroach (Animal) $19.95 In a Caribbean story from this book, the spider Anansi challenges Cockroach to a climbing contest. Anansi, using his webs, then rapidly ascends to the top of a tree, only to find Cockroach waiting for him. The great trickster had forgotten that cockroaches have wings! Cockroaches creatures are constantly underestimated by human beings as well, and few people have even noticed the way images of cockroaches pervade our culture, in everything from comic books and movies to scientific laboratories. They fascinate us, without our even realizing it. For author Marion W. Copeland, the cockroach is a special challenge to our capacity for empathy with other creatures. It is not that cockroaches actually need our sympathy, since, as the author points out at the beginning of her book, they have already survived for 300 million years. The concern is more that we need to be able to acknowledge our kinship with cockroaches, as well as the more glamorous animals like chimpanzees and tigers, to fully participate in the great community of life. ![]() Martina the Beautiful Cockroach $19.95 This book is something I checked out from my school's library (I work there). I enjoyed reading it, but I fell in LOVE with the audio and strongly recommend when you purchase it you get the CD as well. It has Deedy's story telling version (slightly different ending, longer scenes --- just incredibly gifted story teller), it has the book version and it has the Spanish version. I bought this as my daughter's "First day of First grade" gift ---- okay I was looking for an excuse to buy it! :) Inside I wrote just how much I loved her and how much we enjoyed this book ---- it truly is going to be a classic one day that she will read (I hope) with her little girl. So my FIVE STARS but . . . you have to buy it with the CD! ![]() Biocare Extra-large Professional Strength Cockroach Trap - 6 Long Lasting Traps - Non Toxic $7.99 I had noticed a new cockroach in my 1-bedroom apartment every other day for a week, so I bought this, hoping it would help. The first thing you'll notice when you open the bait package is the smell. It is VERY strong and fills the room quickly. I live in AZ, so the summer heat has the windows and doors closed, and the A/C on a LOT. That smell stayed in my apartment for WEEKS. It's the first thing that hits you every single day when you walk in the door. This claims to work for up to 3 months I think it is. 1 month later, however, the traps had still caught nothing. I'm actually writing this review, because I just saw another cockroach WALK RIGHT PAST the trap, and so I definitely need something that will actually work. On the upside, it's cheap. It was really very simple to set up, and there was ample bait included. If you have a well-ventilated place, and you want to give it a shot, go for it. Maybe your roaches will fall for it. Mine didn't. ![]() Cockroaches: Ecology, Behavior, and Natural History $100.00 College-level collections strong in entomological references will find an invaluable detail to COCKROACHES, a review of the approximately 4,000 species within the suborder Blattaria.
