![]() Sport Climbing 101 With Chris Lindner $25.95 Sport Climbing 101 With Chris Lindner is a fantastic video. I have been climbing sport for about 6 months now and still feel some anxiety when cleaning a route. After watching this video I felt more confident when I went out and I didn't feel 1 bit nervous. I also learned some tips that I never knew about clipping in the draws certain ways and how to conserve energy on the route. I wish I saw this when I 1st started, it's been quite the re-learning experience! ![]() Rock Climbing: Mastering Basic Skills (Mountaineers Outdoor Expert) $22.95 It's an easy read and it gives a lot of good information, but I think the illustrations were lacking. Especially the sections of tying knots (it seemed like he was missing steps at times) and equipment descriptions (he'd name off all sorts of gear, but not show a picture of each one). The pictures are in black and white, so it didn't seem like you'd have to try very hard to include lots of them. I wasn't thinking of using the book as a training manual, but I wanted to make sure I had the concepts right when taking my classes, so I would know the questions I needed to ask. ![]() Black Diamond Quicksilver Screwgate Carabiner $7.95 Just to clarify, I did not buy this carabiner for climbing. I backpack a lot and keep one attached to my bags for a number of reasons- a) For bear proofing my campsite. I use a rope and pully system where I lock my pack onto the rope with this carabiner. b) I use rope when hanging clothes out to dry. Tie a rope around two trees and secure with this carabiner and you have a clothes line. c) For pretending like I've climbed and having it attached to my pack makes me look tougher. Ok, I'm just kidding about the third - but to anyone, carabiners are used a number of ways and, although this one is a bit pricey- it has lasted a long time AND it is very light weight, so I really don't mind carrying it at all. I don't think you'd mind either... unless I asked you to carry one around for no particular reason, then you might mind- because you'd look pretty silly at work holding onto a carabiner for no particular reason... plus, it would be hard to type. I hope this review helps you out. I would recommend it to anyone who does not mind dropping a few extra bucks. |
