Two Words, One Answer.

 Christina Aguilera $7.99 Oh my God, this is a fun dance album and fun to listen to. But the talent is in the production. Christina has never had a voice that deserves a second listen. She is background to her wonderful production excess, but just about anyone could substitute for her singing(?) ability. Christina's limited singing talent can be effectively used for sampling, but there is nothing substantial here. She has hired the right people to keep her career alive, but really who cares? Just think...who does she sing better than? No one. She is a lucky gal being able to turn her minor talent into a major career. Don't get me wrong, if you buy this CD, you will probably enjoy it; it is fun. But it is not Christina that is the talent here. This is just a production album.  My Kind of Christmas $6.99 There are two things that do not ever belong together: pretentious song "divas" and Christmas. This offensive pile of Yuletide depression is proof positive of that. Like Mariah and Whitney, Christina's CD is not so much concerned with presents under the tree, or Jesus, or Santa, or any of that stuff. It's about vain, self-centered Christina and her amazing knack for howling like a banshee. "MY Kind of Christmas," not yours, bubby. And her bag of tricks are extremely limited, ranging from the same indistinguishable hip-hop that she and her contemporaries crank out like so much blood sausage, to uninspired renditions of the standards. On the latter, the instrumentations are kept to a minimum so as not to compete with her garish vocals. The one thing that Christina and her peers are incapable of is restraint. The purpose of singing should be to compliment the song, not overpower it. Until these superfluous sirens begin to realize this, I'll never be able to take them seriously as legitimate performers. |
