![]() Catholicism and Fundamentalism: The Attack on "Romanism" by "Bible Christians" $16.95 Thank you for writing this book, Karl Keating! You hit the nail right on the head with this hot and timely apologetics book! Filled with Biblical quotes and scriptural presentation for most major Catholic beliefs. If you're a Catholic who has been hammered by the usual silly Prot nonsense, this may be a good book for you to start off with. For me, it's an easy and enjoyable read. If you've never picked up the Bible before, start there first, it's a Catholic book, first published by Rome. If you're a Protestant, this may be a good start for you to understand the scriptural basis of Catholic beliefs. Hopefully, from now on, you can know what the Catholic Church teaches, other than what your pastors say that the Catholic Church teaches. In my earlier days, I've have held long discussions with "Bible teachers" from many Prot denonominations. Not a single one of them is honest or know what the Catholic Church teaches but they continue to teach their lies anyway. Apart from recommending definitive documents from the Council of Trent or asking you to read the Baltimore Catechism, Karl's book may be a good start for you, depending on how much you already know or don't know. First of all, this book is an easy-read, written for the common man, not dry at all, not just for academics. If you're a persistent bigot of whatever form, you probably won't understand anything anyway. Sin clouds the intellect. I highly recommend the 3-volume "Radio Replies" set by Fathers Rumble and Carty, published over a generation ago by TAN Book Publishers. They'll answer most FAQ from all anti-Catholic quarters, not just Prots. For contemporary writers, check out Scott Hahn, Jesse Romero, "This Rock" magazine or recommendations from the organization called "Catholic Answers". Peace! Matthew Kelley is a highly motivated author who keeps your interest and gets you motivated as well. I was captivated from page one until the end. I like how he uses real life instances to make his point and help you understand how God is helping to guide us toward a better life on earth. He is truly an inspiration to improving our lives. ![]() A Biblical Defense of Catholicism $19.95 David Armstrong's `A Biblical Defense of Catholicism' is a relatively short popular work that examines the main theological differences between Protestant and Catholic Christians. For those unfamiliar with the author, Armstrong, a former Protestant campus missionary, is a well known Catholic writer. The text covers most of the major doctrinal differences that separate conservative Protestants and orthodox Catholics, e.g. the role of tradition, the communion of the saints and the papacy. Potential purchasers can look at the available on-line portion of the book for a comprehensive list of topics. Armstrong's approach is to define the specific issue (e.g. tradition), raise key Protestant concerns, present the Catholic position and provide Biblical references and historic interpretations that support the Catholic view. While he occasionally slips, Armstrong's tone is generally respectful. At times the sheer volume of quotations used makes for a choppy read, however, given the subject matter - providing a Biblical defense of Catholicism - this may be a necessary evil. Armstrong is particularly adept in explaining the different views that Christians take with respect to doctrine, organic and growing (Catholic) or more fixed (Protestant). From my standpoint, this is discussion itself is worth the price of the book - it provides the essential foundation required to understand much of the Protestant - Catholic dialogue. There would appear to be two primary audiences for this book, first, an internal Catholic audience where it could serve as an educational tool, and second, a non-Catholic audience who are seeking a credible source to learn about Catholicism. Though this type of popular inter-Christian writing is not my forte, this text seems a good addition to ecumenical dialogue between orthodox Christians. There is some terrible anti-catholic stuff out there which is ill-informed and extremely vitriolic (the same may exists from the other side). Overall, this is an excellent popular explanation of Catholicism. I highly recommend it to readers wanting to learn more about Catholic Christianity - Armstrong is a knowledgeable and skilled guide. ![]() Catholicism: Crisis of Faith $19.95 Just watched this video, and thought the theological aspects were excellent. I am a former Catholic... came to faith in Christ at age 45. If all searching for truth would test their "organizations" by the Word of God they would see how off kilter the Catholic church as well as others are. |
