![]() The Open Door EP $4.98 typical DCFC- catchy hooks, clever lyrics and a little piece of angst. Not their finest work, but certainly their best EP since FORBIDDEN LOVE ![]() Plans $18.98 I was at first skeptical that I might be into this band, having heard that their music was featured on little kid shows like "The O.C." and other stuff like that. But I really enjoy this CD, its got some memorable music and is very accessible. Well written songs and instrumental arrangements make this album fun to listen to. I like the songs "Soul Meets Body" and "Different Names For The Same Thing," which are both stellar examples of what makes this band special. Some CD's you listen to maybe a few times, but I listen to this one repeatedly and its always been nice music to play. There's not too much else I can say; these are pretty straightforward melodic rock-pop songs that keep the listener interested and don't just fade into the background. Definitely check this one out, its a great CD even if you are one of those fans who was against their switch to a major label. Also check out Give Up by the Postal Service if you like the music on this CD. ![]() Transatlanticism $14.98 The first time I'd ever heard Death Cab For Cutie (DCFC) I was working in a movie theatre during the summer of 2005; `Sound of Settling' had been attached to the trailer for Shopgirl and would play 2-3 times on the television above the cash register. The combination of Chris Walla's voice and rippling images of vulnerability absolutely captivated me. I would stop whatever I was doing at the `Sound of Settling' to embrace one brief moment of clarity and sophistication in an otherwise tumultuous work environment. DCFC's songs are so powerful that you will remember your first experience as potently as I did. `Transatlanticism' floods you with intensity, infusing you with melodic tunes and heartfelt lyrics; the halo of this album is an eclectic array of `brokenhearted lullabies' and `youthful anthems of optimism'. The nearly eight minute long title song `Transatlanticism' cannot sum the entirity of this album any more perfectly in its rallying cry: "I need you so much closer". DCFC has carried me through so much in the years since I've discovered them. As other fans agree, their melodies/lyrics hold a maturity that will carry you through good, bad, and in between. It will grow with you and provide the musical nourishment to cultivate a well tempered soul. ![]() Death Cab for Cutie - Directions $14.98 The music is great - I would much rather have the CD than a DVD... |
