This book has good points but the questions tend to ask a lot of abstract questions. I also don't like the fact that it over complicates simple issues.

There are better books about parenting out there.

This book pulls no punches. A realistic look at the life many of us are living. The authur forces you to take off the rose-colored glasses. After this she gives you a new way to face the problems parents with problem adult chldren deal with. The steps she gives and advice are doable. The problems with your adult children may not change but your response to them and the control they have over your life can.

This is a throwback to old style space opera. The discovery of an anomaly at a dinosaur dig presages a change of focus for the first manned Mars missions. The story unfolds fairly quickly and has just about everything you would expect. This means if you enjoy this sort of thing, you'll be happy, but if you are expecting new insights or compelling characterization, you will be less happy. It reminds me a lot of Von Neumann's War, another Baen pairing of new(er) authors with high(er) profile Baen authors (Flint and Spoor here, Ringo and Taylor there).

Part of its charm, if you want to look at it that way, is some of the same contractor wish fulfillment seen in Von Neumann's War, and a hint of Mary Sue in the main characters. There are several infodumps that justify the plausibility of the story technology by tracing it back to ... today, including a reference to MATLAB by name. There was even a self referential "As you know, Bob," infodump, which is either hubris, frightening naivete, or a wry admission on the part of the authors.

One minor peeve, the hardback could have used another proofing pass (the odd typo, split ellipses, and orphan closing quotes).
