They conspired with much whispering and suppression of giggles; their victim was the principal himself, John Martin, a remarkable young man who knows intimately, by name and background, each of the 619 children he has been entrusted with. Martin was born on January 7, 1925. He has five children of his own. Sometimes teachers are ill-rewarded, but not this day, not John Martin. He couldn't have asked for more.
