Hillarious! ![]() Shift: Change Your Words, Change Your World $19.95 Janet Smithe Warfield's "Shift" is a beautifully written book with a beautiful message. She analyzes the way our minds formulate our thoughts and how important it is to choose the right words when thinking and speaking both. Janet had a mystical experience one day in the presence of an irritating person who was yelling at her," angry, arrogant and rude." She did not think through her behavior but just decided not to react the way most of us normally would. She literally turned the other cheek. in this nano-second Janet was changed forever. She immediatly saw that she had a choice how to respond and our usual over emotional reactions to situations that trouble us exacerbate the situations and that we can always choose how we feel and defuse the environment around us of its tension. In this slim, elegant volume, she spells out through her theme of word-sculpting, how we can "overcome" our lower selves and attain freedom in that overcoming. Sprinkled with her word-sculpted poetry throughout, Janet puts down her ideas in amazingly clear and uncomplicated language. Her Biblical references are numerous and yet she sees the ancient book through a new lense, a modern, evolved way of understanding. Her discussions on fear and courage, parents and children, choices and decisions, anger and freedom, consciousness and unconsciousness are enlightening and persuasive. In the middle of the book there is a list of principles by which to live that serves as wonderful checklist for anyone seeking peace of mind and joy in spirit. "Make Your play your life's work," "Polish all facets of your diamond personailty, "focus on becoming more functional . . . " are just a few. Along with these she offers examples, affirmations, visualizations and steps to awareness. Her insights on The concepts of Thesis, Anthithesis and Synthethis are fascinating as she brings in examples of Christ and Neitzsche. Her paradoxical conclusions make complete sense! This is a wise book by a wise woman and for many out there who are seeking "transformation," who are riding the new wave of our changing times, this book will pull together many readings and thoughts and workshop principles readers may be familiar with. For the uninitiated, it will simply be an eye-opener. A necessary book for the student of peaceful coexistence, who wants to think out of the box, and believes there may be a beautiful solution to the crazy turbulence of human history. Ms. Smithe Warfield can actually change, as well as challenge, the way we think. Led by her clarity and logic, we see that we can have a perfect world. In fact we shall have one in due time, as her recommendations become habitual behavior, as we dig new neural pathways with out new perspectives, as we overcome old self-defeating ways of thinking and feeling. We may do this one at a time or collectively, but when the critical mass is reached, we will see we were raised on falsehoods and led by duality to extremes in judgments and behaviors; indeed, Janet convinces us our world can become the lovely, peaceful gift from the supporting, universal powers that it was designed to be. |
