Body: The Complete Human

This is a very well done update to the National Geographic Society's "The Incredible Machine", published in 1986. It is a masterpiece of easy to read and understand book on how the human body is made and works with incredibly detailed pictures and illustrations.

My four year old has enjoyed this book very much. The transparencies with different systems of the body are especially fun. However she was disappointed and confused that it doesn't in any way include the reproductive organs, so we ended buying a more sophisticated anatomy book that was more satisfying.

This is a good book for introducing the idea to your children, especially young ones that need a simpler explanation. For a more detailed approach, for age 4 and up, I reccommend "The Right Touch." Overall, well done, and generic enough to use in a daycare or preschool classroom.

My third-grader used this book to write a paper on the human body, which is a very broad subject. This book was just what we needed -- a simple introduction to human anatomy. The illustrations are not graphic enough to be intimidating. Yes, the reproductive organs were left out but I'm okay with that for this age group.
