![]() Dare To Dream!: 25 Extraordinary Lives $15.98 Sandra Humphrey's book Dare To Dream! 25 Extraordinary Lives was written for grades 5-7. Within the pages the reader will find 25 biographical sketches. Sandra Humphrey begins with Abraham Lincoln. He was born in a cabin in Kentucky. He and his sister walked nine miles each way to school. Their father though school was unimportant but their mother encouraged them to read and learn. Lincoln was not considered good looking. While he was likable he was never considered gifted. Yet this man became one of the greatest Presidents in history. A few years ago I visited Thomas Edison's home. I found it fascinating. He is another great man in Humphrey's book. Other names you will recognize are: Helen Keller, Eleanor Roosevelt, Georgia O'Keefe, Jackie Robinson and Martin Luther King, JR. What did these 25 people have in common? They had courage. They were committed. They had patience, perseverance and determination to achieve their dream despite the odds. They were all dedicated to those around him/her. Dare To Dream! offers encouragement. We can accomplish much if we are only will to dream and to commit to the dream. ![]() Dr. Seuss (Rookie Biographies) $4.95 This is a children's biography about Dr. Seuss that is written for the beginning reader with colorful pictures every other page but still contains some interesting facts. The point is reading can be fun. I was surprised to learn that Dr. Seuss wrote a book for adults as well called "You're Only Young Once." Quick read--only takes five minutes! Would be great educational bedtime story. --Karen Arlettaz Zemek, author of "My Funny Dad, Harry" ![]() Boone: A Biography (Shannon Ravenel Books) $18.95 Having recently spent time in NC and TN, I wanted to learn more about the area and its history. I find a good way is to read biographies. The book started out slowly, even tediously. I persevered, and it took hold of me. It is a marvelous weaving together of the legends and facts about a man who spent his life following his passion. The author allows you to reach your own conclusion about much of Boone's character which he presents in a factual, yet interesting manner. Boone slowly comes to life and you see a passionate, driven man who is as much legend as truth. He was a contemporary of George Washington, so this is the story of our nation's birth in the wilderness as it was being formed in Philadelphia. Highly recommended, but not for everyone. ![]() Biography - Legends of the Silver Screen $44.95 All I have to say is that this is a wonderful Box Set.
