Principles of Bibliographical Description (St. Paul's Bibliographies ; 15)
Principles of Bibliographical Description (St. Paul's Bibliographies ; 15)

$39.95
Reprint of the first edition. With an Introduction by G. Thomas Tanselle. One of the indisputable classics of 20th-century scholarship, Bowers's work is one of the standard guides on the subject, providing a comprehensive manual for the description of printed books as physical objects. Although there has been much activity in descriptive bibliography since then, Principles still holds its place as the central book to which those engaged in bibliographical work continually return.
Jim Harrison: A Comprehensive Bibliography, 1964-2008
Jim Harrison: A Comprehensive Bibliography, 1964-2008

$65.00
This bibliography is proof positive that Jim Harrison is one of the most prolific and versatile writers in America. It was compiled by two passionate readers (Orr and Torrey), introduced by an preeminent Steinbeck scholar (DeMott), and "foreworded" by Jim Harrison himself. The University of Nebraska Press did a painstaking and beautiful production, and they've done literary scholarship a huge favor by publishing this book. Two sections that piqued my interest were the "Annotated Interviews with Jim Harrison" and the utterly geeky "Dust-Jacket Encomiums by Harrison," a listing of over 250 comments that Harrison wrote to endorse books. The comments themselves are fine reading ("...splendid and quite remote from the MFA-sodden factories...") and it's interesting to see the constellation of Harrison's reading interest. So, if you're a Harrison fan, do yourself and your community a favor: order this book for yourself and then encourage your local library to buy a copy as well.

This is a terrific book for teachers who are finding difficulty teaching writing to young children. Full of great books that most teachers use in their classrooms anyway, this professional book helps to bring picture books to life, while lighting a fire within the young writer.
