See those little concentric circle designs embossed into the paper? They've been replaced with a sort of paisley design (very similar to the fat bowtie designs on Bounty paper towels, and there's a lawsuit, but that's another story......). Brawny decided to make their towels softer. Ugh! They are now a lot like most low-price, house-brand paper towels. They're so squishy, the rolls end up square from being packed in with the other rolls. So squishy, it's difficult to pop them into a paper towel holder (the cardboard tube just folds over). The towels are limp and linty. You could cut the rolls in half and use them for toilet paper. I can't believe this change was the result of consumer demand for softer paper towels -- I think it was driven by cost-cutting. Cheaper rag stock from which the paper is made? Less cotton? Do they whip the pulp more so there's actually more air in the resulting paper? These were my favorite paper towels for over a decade. I hate when they mess with a product I thought was just about perfect. |
