While all E&E's are great, this one was particularly helpful if a professor decides to just use a case book that didn't have a good editor or a professor who just prints off cases for the class to look at while working problems with the class. While this method is helpful on the exam, it isn't so helpful for understanding the material at home if you missed a class or just didn't understand the explanation in class. This is why this E&E, with the 2005 changes, is so particularly helpful.

As always, Nolo books are the best! I am in the legal profession and Nolo Books are far better than the ordinarly law books, especially on Bankruptcy. They are great reference books and they are wonderful to look up something that would take hours to look up in law books. I recommend Nolo for anyone who needs this type of information, both non-lawyer and lawyers!

Personal Bankruptcy Laws for Dummies is the one and only book I found that explains the intricacies of the new bankruptcy law, gives the reader all the information needed to make a rational decision on whether bankruptcy is the appropriate remedy for his or her financial illness, and provides a wealth of information in a manner that neither patronizes nor condemns. Although it recognizes the emotional toll that financial difficulties inevitably place on individuals and couples, its strength is in giving the reader all the information necessary to make a reasoned decision on whether bankruptcy is the best route and, if so, under which chapter of the Bankruptcy Code.

Normally I am suspicious when a book has a lot of 5 star ratings. However, NOLO consistently wins these ratings on their books and you will see that a number of the reviewers purchased the book through Amazon.

In one sentence: the book will explain what bankruptcy is, take you through the decision process, show you how to complete the forms should you decide to do your own and coach you through each step.

As a professional (but not involved in the area) and former grad school prof I get a lot of questions these days about personal finance for those in distress. Many are professionals who a few years ago had family incomes well over $100,000 and a net worth of more than $1 million, but are now looking at the unthinkable.

Sadly a disproportionately large percentage are single mothers.I have purchased several of copies of the book for friends who are way over their heads in the current financial crisis and gradually falling behind in their financial obligations. Frequently they lack the time to step back and look at the alternatives.

The guide goes from the conceptual to helping you fill out the actual forms that will be required. Provides very detailed guidance on the issues and guidelines for filing, what works and what does not work.

Avoiding financial obligations is not in my view a worthy goal in itself. However, in today's world perhaps millions of families are so far under water that bankruptcy may be the only viable strategy for survival. It is the reason there are bankruptcy statutes on the books; as an enlightened society we rejected the concepts of debtors prison and slavery. Those who advanced credit (far too often knowingly participating in or initiating fraudulent transactions) did so in a world that provided bankruptcy as a last resort.

The book is especially important as States like California have made it more difficult for families in financial trouble to get affordable advice and support.

For most people bankruptcy was unthinkable until the last few years. However, with the recession and collapse of home values bankruptcy is, in many cases, the most responsible path to recovery. The guide also offers some encouragement and also some very direct warnings about what not to do (hide assets ) . It's great advice.

As you can see from some of the other posts, armed with only this guide a number of people have done their own bankruptcy from start to finish. Even if you use an attorney, this guide will be helpful and will help save legal fees.

Highly recommended.
