No other operating system can come close to the security, reliability, and efficiency of yours. With such an *obvious* choice, you stand speechless as a world of cretins choose other lesser OSs on a daily basis. The thick, murky ignorance swirls around you, while you huddle tenatively in the eye of the hurricane. How can one look upon that which is Linux and still workship pagan OSs? The answer may never reveal itself, but you can rest easy knowing that while you cannot control these simpletons, you can always make them feel inferior. The revolution will not be televised.
Arrogant Capital: Washington, Wall Street, and the Frustration of American Politics
Arrogant Capital: Washington, Wall Street, and the Frustration of American Politics

This is a brilliant scholarly essay on the inevitable decline of empires. Five empires are compared -- the last of these being the US. Phillips uses the corruption of the imperial capital as a metaphor for the spiritual and moral decline occuring everywhere in the realm. It's a brilliant concept- and it's buoyed by a wide-range of historical research, factual data about the Federal government and the DC area. It's a powerful revelation about the syncretic nature of the US government, corporations, military establishment & religious orthodoxy.

The most chilling statement was that "...[sic] No empire, no government, has ever survived the level of reckless, wasteful, secretive government spending and outrageous lobbying that we see in Washington today." Our leaders are hard as adamant and as entrenched. "The people's business" has been forgetten, except rhetorically. Bribes, kickbacks, deals, deceit and propaganda are at an unbelevable level. And this was written in the early 90's -- before Clinton and Bush brought the level of corruption to an all-time high.

Phillips is an author of great integrity. He speaks his mind based on his learning and experience. He's not looking for approval from political parties or corporate America. He has written several influential books on politics without bowing to pressure from either side. He has no axe to grind; his purpose is clearly to educate. His message is this: extended and expanded foreign wars of aggression and internal abuses and are killing us as a nation. As of October 2009, ONE in SIX Americans lives in poverty -- an unthinkable statistic even 20 years ago. Bailouts and Bonuses to the wealthiest corporations, rampant outsourcing, union-busting, internal repression, sweatshops, massive unemployment, and new wars of aggression in Pakistan and Afghanistan, with massive military outlays in Columbia, plus 7 million dollars a day to Israel, while unmemployment and homelessness reach all-time highs.

Kevin Phillips tried to warn us. Some of us listened but not enough of us. Where were our legislators? All happenings while the ice caps continue to melt....

Excellent book. Read it and weep for this nation.
