![]() Sams Teach Yourself PHP, MySQL and Apache All in One (4th Edition) $39.99 I wish I had taken the time to review this book before purchasing but that's on me. I bought this book because of the title and the work sessions described; very practical material. Fortunatley, these three applications(Apache,PHP and Mysql) came preconfigured with Fedora 10 so I was spared the headache of setting this up like so many others on this forum.I have programming experience but I am quite new to php and mysql. I started off with a little bit of the introductory chapters to become familiar with the syntax and then jumped to chapter 11,Working with forms. I've never experienced a book with so many typos! Even worse, it's the fourth edition. These things should be hammered out by now! What put the icing on the cake for me was that when I went to the disk for clarification, sections of code on the disk were incomplete. I can't even return this piece of cr*p because I unwrapped the useless disk. This book should be called "Sams Teach yourself Trouble Shooting" because that's what you will be doing.I couldn't get half the projects to work until I check out other sources.I finally had to put this book down after losing faith in the code to actually work. If you are new to Apache, PHP and MySQL, this is not the book for you! Fortunately, I had another PHP book which had accurate examples; PHP For The World Wide Web: Larry Ullman. This book also has a chapter on working with MySQL.I haven't finished the book but all the examples I've typed have worked so far. Another book I've been working with is Fedora 9 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Bible: Christopher Negus. This gives pretty good information on setting up apache and MySQL. Not so much on PHP. There probably is a "Bible" for other OS. For both of these books I paid less than $8. This compares to $35 I spent on this soon to be door jam called Sam's Teach Yourself! ![]() Apache Cookbook: Solutions and Examples for Apache Administrators $35.00 The Apache Cookbook is a must have for anyone considering running their own Apache web server. It covers every major feature of Apache and does so without giving too information to the new user while giving more experienced users the guidance to go off on their own and become Apache power users in their own right. ![]() Apache $15.98 This joint is more like a 2.5 star LP, but a lot of the production is on point. This particular album dropped during the peak of the Flava Unit's popularity ('93). While Apache wasn't one of the more notable rappers in the crew, he had one of their biggest hits with the classic "Gangsta Bi***." While that track was bangin', there really weren't many others on the level of that song to be found. The production definitely reeks of that early 90's boom bap -- and it should since Apache, A Tribe Called Quest, Large Professor, S.I.D., Diamond D., The 45 King, and a few others dropping tracks. The flaws are easy to point on with this album. I quickly grew weary of him rapping in vivid detail about sex or going on and on about his dills. It becomes rather repetitive after a while. Not only that, I think he bites Treach's flow. Also, there are corny interludes and songs like "Blunted Snap Session", "Kill D'White People", and "Apache Ain't Sh**" that weigh the album down. Apache Ain't Sh** isn't necessarily a wack album. The beats are definitely on point, but whether you love this album or not depends on whether or not you dig these kind of lyrics over and over. I don't. There are a few gems, but nothing on this album to warrant buying it brand new unless you're just nostalgic and want some old hip hop. Even if that is the case, you can find something better than this album. I'm not too sure if this holds up all that well after 16 years. I recommend checking this out if you can find it used. Standout Tracks: A Fight, Do Fa Self, Get Ya Weight Up, Gangsta Bi*** (My Favorite), Hey Girl feat. Milo & Collie Weed, and Woodchuck feat. Latee, Cee, Double J, & Naughty By Nature ![]() Revell 1:48 AH64 Apache Helicopter $17.99 I bought this as a birthday gift for my dad. He loves the Apache Helicopters and has been wanting to get a model one to put together. Though it is not as big as I was hoping, my dad was still really happy and is in the process of putting it all together! |
