![]() The Aggressives $19.99 "The Aggressives" Aggressive Women Amos Lassen In the poor sections of New York City, there is a group of lesbians that is a unique, secret and separate subculture of the lesbian community. They are the aggressives and the subject of this fascinating documentary by Daniel Peddle. Six women of color, twenty-something in age, identify themselves as members of this group. Throughout the film they try to identify who they are but we quickly see, as is usually the case in some subcultures, they have quite a hard time reaching a comprehensive definition. We all realize that no such definition is necessary bur the stories they tell are what that matters. This is an honest film as it strips these women down to their stories and we, in turn, learn about who they are and if they are members of a certain gender community. Their stories are fascinating and each woman has a unique personality. We learn a great deal about them as they speak. We follow the lives of Kisha, Marquise, Flo, Tiffany, RJ and Octavia around their neighborhoods and into their bedrooms. We meet their lovers and we go to their clubs and even go to prison with them. They all love the masculine lifestyle and they live by their own rules with no apologies. They proudly bend gender with great strength. The message we get is that they are who they are--they are women who look like men but they maintain that they are, above all, women. They show us how not to let labels run our lives and that is important for one to be who he/she is and to be comfortable with that. Because the aggressives live outside of the norms of society, they are often misunderstood. This is not a film about women who want to be men--rather it is a film about people who want to be people. It seems to me that all of us compete with each other to a degree and, in affect, this is how we survive. We see a world we are not familiar with from within and we see the world as a stage upon which we all play a part. ![]() Razor Aggressive Youth Multi-sport Helmet (Satin Pink) $34.99 Nice quality, but always is from Razor! Since I believe we choose partners to help us heal old childhood wounds, this book provided the perfect explanation of why we had chosen each other and why we were never able to accomplish the close, open relationship I was seeking. I don't want to give up on this marriage, and since it takes two to tango, we have elected to seek counseling. We obviously BOTH need to learn how to cope, to change and to grow. I now have hope. I did read a few of the other reviews, and I will add that this book does not provide guidance for the passive agressive man - it wasn't written for him. It provides insight and possible understanding for those living and working with these types. There is no miracle cure for passive agressive behavior and you won't find one in this book. ![]() Massive Aggressive $15.98 I discovered Municipal Waste on a compilation CD, and purchased "Hazardous Mutation" off the one track I heard on the comp CD. Wow, I was blown away and subsequently purchased "Waste 'em All"..not in the same league with "HM" but a fun listen. When "The Art of Partying" was released I was stoked, but the CD as a whole was a bit off the mark IMO. That being said, "Beer Pressure, Chemically Altered, Born to Party, Thrashing is my Business and Business is Good, and I Just Wanna Rock" still get weekly plays, but there were some fillers on "TAoP" IMO. I'm mentioning all this to give some history so I can say that "Massive Aggressive" is MW's best release after "Hazardous Mutation". Some have knocked the production, but IMO it is nice and flat and let's you hear the band as the band really sounds, none of this over compressed, over produced crap...it sounds real. AND if you're complaining about it sounding "tinny", you're just hatin'. "Massive Aggressive" sounds good coming out of my Klipsch home speakers, my factory VW stereo, or my Emerson 1989 "boom box" that sits in the garage. The production IMO is one of the best aspects of this release, it's flat and clear. "Massive Aggressive" has some stellar tracks as well with some sick hooks. My favorite tracks: "Wolves of Chernobyl, Upside Down Church, and Media Skeptic". If you like Municipal Waste, you will not be disappointed, excellent release. |
