I have a friend who takes aid to the province of South Africa where this orphanage is in the form of basic needs (food, shelter, clothing) and begins educational and self-help programs. What she has told me about orphanages she has visited and with whom she has worked is that the children who get into an orphanage ARE THE LUCKY ONES. They has basic necessities and someone to look after them. People need to know there are children as young as seven years old who are on their own and sometimes are the caregivers for their younger children. This is the result of the AIDS/HIV pandemic that has taken their parents.

She has told me that the people of KwaZulu Natel usually sing from dawn to dusk. Recently someone who is still in the region told her that the children who come to the after school program my friend started are too weak from malnutrition to sing as they once did. Although my friend has not worked at Agape she has visited and says this orphanage is among the best. For anyone interested in reading about my friend and her experiences they can do so at [...]. This is the second in a three-part series. The first book, `Hesed,' was fantastic. `Agape' follows at the same quality of writing. I cannot find any information on `Emet,' the third book, but am anxious to read it when it's available.

Here, Episcopal priest Beth Kelly is making a life with her partner and non-believer Nikki Thera. Beth loves God and she struggles every day as she no longer feels him in her life. She is working on a degree and is a chaplain at a local hospital. This keeps her hands busy, but her heart is dedicated to Nikki.

At the same time, Nikki struggles with her own demons. She may not believe in Beth's God, but she's looking for truth and is a voracious student of all theologies. She can and does hold her own in arguments with others on the subject. She also works hard to reconcile her own beliefs with those of the woman she loves with everything she is.

The entire book is about how Beth and Nikki struggle to come together as a couple and find ultimate truth in each other. As with personal belief differences in any relationship, Beth and Nikki area testament to the belief that love conquers all. The book is powerfully written and thought-provoking. It is emotional and unbelievably engaging.

Bottom Line - Can't wait for `Emet.' These gals have been through so much together, I am anxious to see what happens next.
