 Violence, Nudity, Adult Content: A Novel $14.95 It's neither a legal thriller nor a piece of literary fiction. In places, Passaro just ends up doing the equivalent of written babbling. It's unfortunate, as the book holds some promise and some of the characters are very interesting and three dimensional. And yet, those characters are never given a chance to shine and there isn't any plot to speak of. I hesitate to give this novel a 1 star if only for the promise that is shown, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.  What the F*ck Is Wrong with You People? $15.98 I bought this album because Amazon recommended it as similar to something else I had looked at. I thought, wow, great name and when I listened to the sound clips I was impressed with how "hard" and in your face it is. I liked the electronic buzz saw sounds. Then I got the album and listened to it and was less impressed. All the songs sound very similar to one another. Some are slightly slower, some slightly faster, but most have the same unpunctuated screaming. I like screaming, really love it sometimes. But it seems most powerful when used as an accent as opposed to a constant voice stream. I suppose if you liked some of the early 80s punk that used that same style then you might appreciate this. The other thing that disappointed me, probably even more, is that nothing interesting ever happens with the beats or drums. It's just the same doop-doop-doop-doop over and over again. I guess it makes a steady beat to dance to (but isn't this stuff too fast for that?) but it's not very interesting to listen to after the second song. So now that I come back and I'm reading the other reviews I learn that apparently I am the least knowledgeable person in the world about this band/person/style of music. There are all sorts of acronyms to describe it, like EBM ("Electronic Body Music"), and I saw a couple others in the other reviews that I wasn't sure if they were other bands or other musical styles or what. And yet, without spending an hour-and-a-half on Wikipedia researching all this stuff it does nothing to tell me whether I'll like it or not. If you're like me and you're not part of some underground Combichrist scene, but you're looking for some kickass music, then this might not be the best place to get it. I liked the sound clips but was disappointed when I got it by the repetitive nature of the music and the lack of creativity with the beats or instrumentation. Same 2 synth sounds used for every song. Still, not the worst stuff I've heard. I just tire of it easily.  Sexual Intrigue $9.99 Horrible acting. No story. No plot. Lots of T&A though. If that's what you're looking for AND you turn the volume all the way down you should be happy with your purchase. |
