![]() Delivered from Distraction: Getting the Most out of Life with Attention Deficit Disorder $15.00 This book is a Godsend for anyone who either has ADD or loves someone who has it. Furthermore, because the book is written by two eminent psychiatrists who both have ADD, the structure, writing style, and explanations are tailor-made for ADDer's of all styles. The book is divided into small articles that can be digested on their own at your own pace if reading and tracking lines is difficult for you, or if that isn't a problem for you, you can read the whole thing from cover to cover. This book also contains sections which deal with Adult ADDers, which distinguishes it from a lot of ADD literature. As an adult ADDer who wasn't diagnosed until adulthood, having some information about the special issues that stem from a life of undiagnosed ADD was very helpful. But even better, Ratey and Hallowell offer a plethora of treatment options, and highly recommend multi-modal treatment. They look at traditional medication options, behavioral aids, non-traditional and cutting edge treatments such as the Dore Method, as well as various nutrition and supplement information. Also offered in this book are some exercises to help the brain focus and master task allocation. This book is chock full of important imformation that people who are new to the diagnosis can appreciate as well as those who are familiar with much of the ADD literature already. Ratey and Hallowell pepper their articles with humor, examples, and personal stories of both ADD struggle and success. Even more importantly, they refrain from discussing it solely in terms of the disorder that it can cause, and instead focus much on the many gifts of creativity, ingenuity, and spontaneity that ADD well-treated brings with it. ![]() ADD-Friendly Ways to Organize Your Life $21.95 Based on all the positive reviews, I was surprised that this book was not very helpful. The authors seem like smart, well-meaning people, but unfortunately I found that much of the advice was too generic, bordering on being platitudinous ("avoid being late for things by planning to arrive 15 minutes early," "relax by looking at something green and breathing deeply," etc.) Also, there was too much emphasis on involving other people, either by getting help from friends and family or professional organization coaches. They definitely don't offer a do-it-yourself approach in this book. For a book for helping ADD people get organized that has concrete, practical, do-it-yourself advice, I highly recommend Organizing Solutions for People With Attention Deficit Disorder by Susan Pinsky instead. ![]() Driven To Distraction : Recognizing and Coping with Attention Deficit Disorder from Childhood Through Adulthood $16.00 This is the way to go for ADHD people who won't read thru the book. I found this lighthearted and very informational with information applying to school kids to adults. Highly recommended. ![]() Superparenting for ADD: An Innovative Approach to Raising Your Distracted Child $25.00 Book like new. Has great ideas on raising an ADD child. Opened my eyes to what it is like. Would recommend this book to anyone who is ADD or raising an ADD child. |
