![]() Actor $15.98 All I had heard of this album was that it was better than her debut album Marry Me, which I greatly enjoyed. And while it's a good album, it's not better than Marry Me. In fact, I'd say it's the other way around. If you appreciated the complex arrangements of the first, it's quite noticable that, as stated by the artist, she used Garage Band to program the music. There's a fairly overbearing drumbeat through most of the tracks that I felt distracted from the arrangements for which she was previously known. This does seem to cease at around track 8, but that doesn't leave a lot of the album left. What I appreciated about the first album was it's intricate melody and harmony, that came from a wide range of musical sources. Marry Me contained everything from violin and cello to upright bass and vibraphone, and Garage Band was not a good substitute for the wide array of instruments used on the first, which despite what other reviewers have stated here, is much more musically dense than Actor. Marry Me is a much better album, in my opinion, in structure and content. As such, it's not that this album's bad, it's just not as good as it's predecessor. Here's hoping for a return to form on the next album. ![]() Acting Is Everything: An Actor's Guidebook for a Successful Career in Los Angeles, Expanded Gold $29.95 This is The Yellow Pages for Actors and then some. Dallas Travers, Author of "The Tao of Show Business - Actor's Edition" ![]() People en Espanol (1-year) $32.89 I have been renewing my subscription to People en Espanol for over 3 years now through Amazon. I just happened to visit my grandmother (September 2009) and ask her how she liked her magazines. I didn't see them out anywhere in her stash of reading materials. She said that she hadn't received one since October 2008. I immediately called the magazine's customer service. They stated that they had incorrectly recorded the address using Avenue instead of Drive (as listed in the order) and the magazine was noted as undeliverable since October 2008. They agreed to extend my subscription for the 11 month difference. Don't get me wrong, this is a great magazine, I was just disappointed that they failed to notify me (at my billing address, which is different than the shipping address) that my magazine "gift" was undeliverable. Thank goodness for grandmother's memory. I will not renew this year. ![]() Robin Williams: Inside Actors Studio $14.99 I just recently saw Robin Williams in concert back in October. It was so much fun! Ever since then, I've been seeing a lot of his movies on cable. I've seen this interview before on the Bravo network on cable. I never knew it was on DVD. When Robin Williams is being interviewed, you know you will not be bored. He had the audience in the theater laughing almost the entire time. It's fun to hear his side when he's talking about his family, the movies he's made, his life growing up, the schooling he had before he went into the entertaiment buisness. During the interview, he does a lot of stand-up. It keeps the inverview fun. The man is a comic genius!! It's funny to know when he was in high school he was voted "funniest person," but also voted "least likely to succeed." So much they know! Ha! I would recomend this dvd to anyone who is a Robin Williams fan, or even if you're not. If you want a good laugh, he will keep you in stitches! |
