![]() Engendering the Fall: John Milton and Seventeenth-Century Women Writers $65.00 The narrative of the Garden of Eden infused seventeenth-century political thought no less than it reflected attitudes toward the relationship between the sexes. Within the contemporary debate over political legitimacy, theorists who supported or questioned the monarchy turned explicitly to the narrative of the Garden of Eden and Adam and Eve to articulate their theories of governmental authority. Engaging this foundational relationship between gendered interpersonal and governmental organization, Shannon Miller turns to a body of texts produced in England that replot the story of the Garden. She sets a series of writings by women into conversation with the period's most important poetic rendering of the Fall, Milton's Paradise Lost, to illustrate how significant gender was to accounts of social and political organization, and to demonstrate how the Garden narrative plots the role of gender. Her multidirectional and multilayered conversation between numerous seventeenth-century women?such as Aemilia Lanyer, Rachel Speght, Lucy Hutchinson, Margaret Cavendish, and Mary Chudleigh?and Milton's Genesis epic crystallizes the interplay between the narrative of the Fall, the organization of political structures, and the extent to which both were shaped by cultural debates over the role of women. ![]() Another Thin Man $9.99 All classic-film lovers must own this wonderful set. Sparkling, sophisticated, witty. . . loads of fun! ![]() Muddy Water Fever $15.98 The sound of this CD is a little reminiscent of Gov't Mule both in the vocals of John Jaworowicz and in the guitar solo's. The Co-Op itself features a host of guests including, Gov't Mule's Warren Haynes on guitar, Jimmy Nalls and Jack Pearson both from the Gregg Allman Band on guitar, Willie Howse from the Greg Allman band on harp, Willie Dixon's drummer, Chucki Bruke and Billy Earheart from the Amazing Rhythm Aces on organ. All of the songs on the CD, except Willie Dixon's "Back Door Man", were written or cowritten by Jaworowicz. Unfortunately, Jaworowitcz passed away shortly after the CD was released and Jimmy Nalls is currently battling Parkinson's disease. Therefore, a follow up CD reuniting this talent will not occur. Overall, the songs represented here are good rockin' blues from the land of Muscle Shoals. Highlights are "Muddy Water Fever" and "Shake You Down". No slow dancing allowed. ![]() Great British Writers - John Milton Poster, 17" x 22" $14.99 AllPosters.com is the world's #1 seller of posters, prints, photographs, specialty products and framed art.
